In doing the research on the Turso family last month, I came across Jennie Policastro as one of the spouses. Whenever I see marriages in the USA involving Monte San Giacomo surnames, I jot them down so I can use them as potential future research.
It bears out again and again that at least the first generation of immigrants prefer to marry within their region of Italy. It becomes more successive generations become more part of the new culture and begin to marry with other Italians and more prevalently, non-Italians.
This is perfectly illustrated in the family of Pietro Antonio Policastro. Pietro, a cabinet maker/carpenter, was born in 1859 and married his first wife Pasqualina Amato in 1877. They had 7 children. After Pasqualina’s death he married Giacomina Clemente in 1899 and they had 6 children, 5 of whom were born in New York/New Jersey.
In 1901, Pietro took his entire family and emigrated to the USA on the Belgravia. His eldest son Michele, who was old enough to marry in Italy, would follow in 1911.
His children’s spouses include the following Monte San Giacomo surnames: Pantoliano, Caruso, Cerbo, Cammarano (which is more Sassanese, but this branch lived in Monte San Giacomo), and Turso.
Spouses of grandchildren include Calabrese and Calicchio.
I found it interesting that I kept coming back to this family, since I had already research the Pantoliano and Cerbo families from their perspectives, respectively.
Additionally, this update covers filling in some image gaps for the imported Pantoliano tree, as well as some information regarding the family of Angelo Policastro and Cristina Lisa who lived in Argentina and settled in Brazil.
