My great-grandfather Pasquale Pantoliano emigrated from Monte San Giacomo in the late 1870s and, like so many other immigrants settled in New York’s Little Italy and then in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Some years ago I began researching the Pantoliano family with the hope of creating a family tree. Through a combination of Ancestry, FamilySearch, Imagines Maiorum, and several other websites, I managed to trace the line back to Vincenzo Pasquale Pantoliano ( 1803-1877) and forward to the present day, for all branches.
Then I discovered the Salerno archives, which allowed me to take it further back to the early 1700s. It was a lot of work, paging through thousands of images, attempting to piece together a family tree
I thought about what went into creating Imagines Maiorum and how helpful it had been to me, and many other fellow researchers. I thought to pay that forward by creating a full picture of Monte San Giacomo by going through every single available record housed in the Salerno Archives and FamilySearch and transforming them into a series of intertwined family trees, viewable AS family trees. At launch there are over 17000 people represented.
Going Forward
Using available tools, I will now begin bringing all these families to the present as is possible. I will be providing monthly updates to the the work as my research progresses. So keep an eye on the blog for those updates.
