One of the most frustrating thing about researching Italian emigrants is how Americans (and others) have misspelled and mistranslated names. I can count over 15 different spellings of Pantoliano alone.
Something similar can be said of the Monte San Giacomo records. There are many cases where the same surname is treated in different ways (Cerbo, Cervo, Ciervo), or there are are alternate spellings of the given name (Angela, Angiola). Others evolved over time (d’Amato to Amato).
To facilitate research I have standardized the names to the modern (e.g., 1910 records) variants. In all cases I have kept alternate spellings as additional names. The table below shows all the major names and where they are sourced from.
