This month’s update concerns the family of Michele Romano and Raffaela Rosini.
Like many Monte San Giacomese, Michele and Raffaele emigrated to the United States in the late 1800s and settled in New Jersey. What is most interesting about them is that their children (and grand-children) kept the community of Monte San Giacomo alive by marrying other immigrants from Monte San Giacomo: several branches of the Lisa and other Romano families, the Totaro, Tuzia, Monaco, and Chirichella are all connected.
The second half of this update is thanks to the good work the of Italian Parish Records project. One contributor was able to photograph and index the San Giovanni Evangelist records in Sassano. This made tracing the marriages between the Monte San Giacomese and Sassanese where the couple moved to Sassano very easy and is helping clear up errors in the data where individuals were marked as being born in Monte San Giacomo. This will be an ongoing part of the updates going forward.
